Playtech Casinos

Playtech makes the games, it is not the casino you deposit at. It is one of the oldest and largest names in gambling software, and its live blackjack tables run eight decks and pay a full 3 to 2, which is strong for live play. These are the casinos that carry them, and how the tables actually play.

  • Live blackjack up to 99.57% RTP
  • Every table pays 3 to 2

The Best Playtech casinos

A Playtech table plays the same way whoever you play it with. The dealer, the rules and the stream come from the same studio, so the casino you sign up with does not change the game. It changes everything around the game: how fast your winnings arrive, what you can bet, which payment methods you get, and whether live tables count when you are clearing a bonus.

Each of these carries the full Playtech live floor, and they rate highest with us on the things that actually differ.

Is Playtech safe to play?

Playtech is licensed as a games supplier, not as your casino. It holds a UK Gambling Commission gambling software licence, which covers the games it builds and the technical standards they are tested to. That regulator does not oversee your account. Your money relationship is with the casino you deposited at, and it is that casino’s licence that decides what happens if a withdrawal stalls. A site can run perfectly fair Playtech tables and still be a poor place to leave money sitting. The tables are not the thing to check. The casino is.

As for the games, you can watch them happen. The live blackjack tables are real: eight physical decks dealt from a shoe, a dealer in front of you, filmed continuously. The software reads what the cards actually did rather than deciding it. The odds come from the rules of the game, the same as they would at a table you can walk up to.

Playtech’s UK licence

Britain publishes its gambling register openly, so this entry is one you can look up yourself. Playtech holds further licences in other markets that are not published in the same way.

3.5 million pounds over its former casino brands, 2020

UK Gambling Commission public statement, 27 May 2020
What was reviewed
An investigation into PT Entertainment Services, the licensed operator behind Playtech's own former online casinos, opened in March 2019 after the family of a customer who had died in 2017 contacted the Commission.
What the regulator found
Serious systemic failings in how PTES handled player protection and anti-money laundering between May 2015 and September 2017, including granting a customer VIP status and continuing to take his bets without checking he could afford them or stepping in when his card payments were declined.
Outcome
PTES had already surrendered its licence, so no penalty was imposed, but the Commission published its findings and said it would otherwise have fined the operator 3.5 million pounds. Playtech then paid 3.5 million pounds to problem gambling charities and pledged further donations over the following five years.
What it means for you
This was Playtech's own casino business, which it has since closed, not the games studio that supplies tables to other casinos. It tells you how Playtech once ran a casino, not whether its blackjack tables are fair. The licence that protects your deposit is always the casino you play at.

Playtech live blackjack

Playtech’s live blackjack is unusually consistent. Every table we track runs the same core rules: eight decks, the dealer stands on all 17s, you can double after a split, there is no surrender, and blackjack pays a full 3 to 2, not the shortened 6 to 5 that has crept onto some live floors. Play those rules correctly and the house keeps roughly half a percent of what you bet, which is strong for live blackjack. What changes from table to table is the seating, the side bets, and whether a bonus feature is bolted on top. Our tested main-game return for each is below.

TableSeatsOur tested RTPMin bet (USD)What sets it apart
Blackjack799.50%$10The classic seven-seat table
Speed Blackjack799.50%$10The same game dealt faster
Unlimited BlackjackUnlimited99.54%$1One shared hand, no seat limit
All Bets BlackjackUnlimited99.46%$1Six optional side bets
Cashback Blackjack LiveUnlimited99.55%$1Buys your hand out for cash mid-round
Majority Rules Speed Blackjack2 teams99.54%$1Everyone plays one hand and votes
Mega Fire Blaze BlackjackUnlimited99.55%$1Side bet with a four-tier jackpot
Quantum Blackjack PlusUnlimited99.57%$1Random multiplier cards on wins

A few are worth calling out. Quantum Blackjack Plus adds random multiplier cards to winning hands, paid for by the dealer pushing rather than losing on some three-card busts. Mega Fire Blaze Blackjack carries a side bet with a four-tier jackpot, and All Bets Blackjack rings the standard game with six optional side bets. Side bets and jackpot features are fun, but they carry their own, far higher house edge: the base game is where the good odds sit.

Beyond blackjack

Blackjack is the floor we track table by table, but it is a small slice of what Playtech builds. The same live studio runs roulette and a growing set of game-show formats, and Playtech was the studio that first bolted its Age of the Gods jackpot onto a live roulette wheel. Away from the live tables, Playtech is one of the largest makers of ordinary online slots and RNG table games: its Age of the Gods series alone is a network of more than twenty slots sharing four progressive jackpots, and it is probably the Playtech game most people have played without knowing Playtech made it.

We do not publish per-game odds for the roulette, game shows or slots here, because the figures we verify are for the live blackjack floor. For everything else, the house edge is set by each game’s own paytable, so it is worth a look before you play.

The company behind the games

Playtech was founded in 1999 by Teddy Sagi, with its first development office in Tartu, Estonia. It is registered in Douglas on the Isle of Man and trades on the London Stock Exchange as PTEC, a member of the FTSE 250. It is one of the oldest and largest companies in online gambling software, and unlike a pure live-dealer studio it also builds slots, poker and the platform that ties a casino’s games together. For a blackjack player, the part that matters is the live floor.

  • 1999

Founded by Teddy Sagi, with a first development office in Tartu, Estonia.

  • 2006

Floats on London’s junior AIM market in March.

  • 2012

Moves up to the London Stock Exchange main market, where it trades as PTEC in the FTSE 250.

  • 2017

Opens a live casino studio in Bucharest to serve newly regulated Eastern European markets.

  • 2020

The UK Gambling Commission publishes failings by PT Entertainment Services, Playtech’s own casino operation, which Playtech then closes, leaving the business of running casinos to concentrate on supplying them.

Where the tables are filmed

Playtech streams its live tables from its own studios rather than from casino floors, which is why the tables run around the clock. Every Playtech blackjack table we track is dealt from its flagship studio in Riga, with other studios serving different markets.

  • Riga, Latvia
  • Bucharest, Romania 2017
  • Manila, Philippines

Common questions

Is Playtech a casino?

No. Playtech makes the games and the software behind them; the casino you deposit at is a separate company that licenses them. If a withdrawal goes wrong, it is that casino's licence that matters, not Playtech's.

Are Playtech's blackjack tables fair?

The live tables are physical: real cards from a real shoe, a real dealer, filmed continuously, so the result is read rather than generated. Playtech holds a UK Gambling Commission gambling software licence, and its games are tested to the Commission's standards. The house edge comes from the rules of the game, the same as on a casino floor.

What rules do Playtech live blackjack tables use?

Every table we track runs eight decks, the dealer stands on all 17s, you can double after splitting, there is no surrender, and blackjack pays a full 3 to 2. Played with basic strategy that is a house edge of about half a percent, which is strong for live blackjack. What changes between tables is the seating, the side bets, and the bonus features.

Which Playtech blackjack table is best?

They share the same core rules and near-identical returns, so pick by how you want to play. Classic and Speed Blackjack seat seven; Unlimited and the feature tables seat everyone on one shared hand. Quantum adds random multipliers, Mega Fire Blaze adds a jackpot side bet, and Cashback offers to buy your hand out mid-round.

Has Playtech been in trouble with regulators?

Yes. In 2020 the UK Gambling Commission published serious failings by PT Entertainment Services, Playtech's own former online casino operation, over player protection and anti-money laundering. Playtech has since closed that business. The case was about the casino Playtech used to run, not the games it supplies to other casinos.
